Los Angeles Earthquake: Magnitude 4.4 Strikes Near Highland Park
About the Earthquake
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck at 12:20 pm on Monday, August 8th, 2023. The quake's epicenter was located approximately 25 miles south of Highland Park and just west of Pasadena.
The earthquake was felt across a wide area of the Southland, including Pasadena, Highland Park, South Pasadena, and Alhambra. There were no immediate reports of any major damage or injuries.
Aftermath of the Earthquake
In the aftermath of the earthquake, crews were dispatched to repair a water pipe that had burst at Pasadena City Hall. Bottles were also seen falling from the shelves of an Alhambra Target store.
A Pasadena city spokesperson said that there was a burst water pipe in City Hall. The spokesperson added that the building was being evacuated and that there were no reports of any injuries.
USGS Confirms 4.7 Earthquake
The USGS later confirmed that a second earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 occurred at 4:04 pm on the same day. The epicenter of this earthquake was located 4 km southwest of South Pasadena.
This earthquake was also felt across a wide area of the Southland, but there were no immediate reports of any major damage or injuries.
