From Frozen Custard to a City Icon

On August 26, 2024, at the age of 96, Ted Drewes Jr., son of the founder of the beloved St. Louis frozen custard business, Ted Drewes, passed away. His father, Ted Sr., opened his first frozen custard shop in 1929, and it quickly became a staple in the city.

Ted Jr. took over the family business in 1951, and under his leadership, Ted Drewes expanded to multiple locations throughout the St. Louis area. The business became known for its signature frozen custard, as well as its generous portions and friendly service.

A Legacy of St. Louis Pride

Ted Drewes Jr. was a true St. Louisan, and he was deeply involved in the community. He was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals' Booster Club, and he was a supporter of numerous local charities.

Drewes was also a mentor to young people, and he always took the time to talk to them about the importance of hard work and dedication. He was a true role model for the city of St. Louis.
