Serie A | Parma 2-3 Udinese – Visitors miss chance to go top
Parma upset Udinese to boost survival hopes
Udinese missed the chance to move top of Serie A as they were beaten 3-2 by relegation-threatened Parma on Sunday.
The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute through Rodrigo De Paul, but Parma hit back with two goals in quick succession. Juraj Kucka equalised from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute before Andreas Cornelius gave the hosts the lead in the 30th minute.
Udinese equalised again through De Paul in the 55th minute, but Parma secured all three points when Yann Karamoh scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute. The result leaves Udinese third in the table, level on points with second-placed Inter Milan, while Parma move up to 17th, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Parma's unlikely victory
Parma's victory was all the more impressive as they were without a number of key players, including Gervinho, who was suspended, and Dejan Kulusevski, who is on loan from Atalanta. The hosts also had to play the majority of the second half with 10 men after Gastón Brugman was sent off in the 53rd minute.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Parma never gave up and were rewarded for their efforts with a famous victory. The result is a major boost to Parma's survival hopes, while Udinese will be disappointed to have missed the chance to go top of the table.
De Paul's double not enough for Udinese
De Paul was Udinese's standout performer on the day, scoring two goals and causing Parma's defence problems throughout the match. However, the Argentine's efforts were not enough to earn his team a victory.
Udinese will be hoping to bounce back from this defeat when they face Atalanta in their next match, while Parma will be looking to build on this victory when they travel to Sassuolo.
